Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate sixth grade students' errors based on Newman's analysis model in surface and volume concepts. The study was applied in terms of its purpose and descriptive-correlational in terms of its implementation method. The statistical population consisted of 1298 sixth grade elementary school students in Azna city in the academic year 1401-1402. A statistical sample of 150 students was selected by random-cluster method (six classes). The tool used in this study was, in addition to a researcher-made test consisting of 5 questions in three conceptual, applied and computational structures; a qualitative interview of students for the answers given and the identification of errors. The validity of the test was confirmed by the content validity ratio index. The reliability of the test was also confirmed by the Cronbach's alpha method (0.95). Data analysis was performed with SPSS 26 software. The results showed that students had 2% errors in reading errors; 54% errors in comprehension errors; 37% errors in conversion errors; 24% errors in processing errors; and 28% errors in encoding errors. Therefore, the lowest errors were related to the reading level and the highest errors were related to the comprehension and then conversion levels. There was also a negative and significant relationship between students' performance and Newman's five errors. This means that the more students' errors increase, the less their performance decreases. Also, in a pairwise comparison of structures, the stronger the relationship was between the two functional and computational structures with a correlation coefficient of 0.40.
