Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative research is to analyze the professional characteristics based on the author’s lived experiences and to identify the strengths and weaknesses and to improve her competencies in line with professional development and also to interest students in the field of mathematics education. In this research narrative, the coding method of experiences gained by the author during her life was used to collect data. The data analysis method is the thematic analysis method. In this regard, the findings of the research showed that the author’s interest in mathematics has family roots and her friends and teachers contributed to her tendency towards this job. Also, she has mentioned the experiences gained in life and during the educational period, professional development, how to be a teacher in the future (being patient, humorous, not humiliating the student), ideals and commitments (updated information of a teacher, etc.), teacher’s beliefs (teaching students how to think, etc.), her challenges and solutions (managing a busy classroom by giving responsibility to students, etc.), and teacher's principles and theories (multiple intelligences, etc.), and finally she made a promise keep her knowledge updated with the aim of being a lifelong learner.
